Grok Bot Not Working? Fix Sign-In, Updates, Sites and Apps
Most Grok Bot problems clear after you fully quit and reopen the app. For a sign-in loop, update, sign out and back in, and clear cursor.com and x.ai cookies. For Update required, install the update and restart. Check status.cursor.com before resetting anything, and send support your version, request ID and a screenshot.

Why is Grok Bot stuck in a sign-in loop or showing an authentication error?
Start by ruling out the wrong app. Grok, the chat app from xAI, and Grok BotAn early AI teammate product from SpaceXAI and Cursor that works across apps on a persistent cloud computer and asks for approval on selected actions; launch materials describe it as beta, but Cursor says Beta Services terms do not apply. Press Enter for the full definition. are two different apps, and a paywall or Weekly SuperGrok Limit in the Grok app has nothing to do with Grok Bot. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account and has no separate login.

Press Enter for the full definition. itself, Cursor's sign-in help gives an order that resolves most cases.
- 1Update the desktop app to the latest version, then sign out and sign back in.
- 2Clear browser cache and cookies for cursor.com and x.ai, then sign in again in a private or incognito window.
- 3On desktop, also try signing in at x.ai/bot with the same Cursor account.
- 4If the phone loops, sign in on desktop first.
- 5If the error started recently, wait 30 to 60 minutes and retry. Some auth errors clear as the session refreshes.
Reinstalling usually does not help, so leave it off the list. Some session and account-link failures cannot be fixed from your side at all, and Cursor says some persistent authentication errors are known issues. If the steps above fail, contact support with your account email, the exact error text, your platform and version, what you tried, and whether it started during SuperGrok or X Premium+ linking.
A phone verification failure can block account access, including after SuperGrok or X Premium+ linking. These blocks cannot be cleared from your side. Send support your account email, whether you completed verification or got an error, whether the block appeared at sign-in or during linking, and a screenshot of the access-blocked screen.

Why does Grok Bot say Update required, or stay on the old version after updating?
Update required appears when your version is too old to be supported. Cursor's how-to help puts that at more than 14 days old with a newer version out, while the deployment docs say Cursor sets the minimum version remotely and does not publish it, so treat 14 days as a guide. Choose Update, then Restart to update when the download finishes. If it fails, choose Try again, or Download the latest version and install it yourself. On the phone, the screen has an Update Grok BotAn early AI teammate product from SpaceXAI and Cursor that works across apps on a persistent cloud computer and asks for approval on selected actions; launch materials describe it as beta, but Cursor says Beta Services terms do not apply. Linux may show a command instead. sudo apt update && sudo apt install --only-upgrade grok-bot sudo dnf upgrade --refresh grok-bot
The stranger case is an app that closed to update and came back on the old version. Check the version first, from the account menu under Support > About. Then fully quit and reopen (on Mac, Quit from the menu bar, since closing the window does not quit), and use Settings > Updates > Check for Updates followed by Restart to Update. If the version still has not moved, download the latest build from cursor.com/dashboard/bot and install it over the current app. Your Bots and chats belong to your account, so they are still there afterwards. If the old version keeps coming back, send support the version from About and your platform.
Why did my Bot stop replying?
Read the message the Bot left. A usage-limit message and a failure message look similar at a glance, and they need opposite responses: one means wait for the reset, the other means retry.
If it says you hit your usage limit, nothing is broken. Your weekly usage is used up and resets each week. Whether you can keep going before then depends on your plan, and Grok BotAn early AI teammate product from SpaceXAI and Cursor that works across apps on a persistent cloud computer and asks for approval on selected actions; launch materials describe it as beta, but Cursor says Beta Services terms do not apply. Do not Reset the computer or reinstall: neither fixes a service problem, and Reset can lose very recent changes if the computer cannot be reached to save them. With no incident listed, wait a moment and resend, then fully quit and reopen. If it keeps happening, contact support with the request ID.

Why does a website block my Bot or time out, or the Bot say local tools are off?
The Bot's computer reaches the internet through Cursor's shared network, and some sites block or drop traffic from cloud computers even when the same address opens fine on your own device. You might see a captcha, a timeout, a secure connection error or a page that never loads. Update, Recover and Reset do not change this, so skip them.
When a site blocks a sign-in, the Bot hands you the step and you can sign in yourself on its computer. For timeouts and connection errors, two settings under Settings > Computer > Your computer send the work through your own device instead.
- Route traffic through this computer
- The Bot's browser uses your desktop's connection, so the site sees your network and IP address. Applies to new connections while the desktop app is open. Locked if your admin turned off local routing.
- Execution on this computer
- The Bot runs commands and scripts, including API calls, on your desktop. Choose Ask every time or Always allow.
If the routing row asks you to update the Bot's computer first, choose Update. If neither setting fits, send support the site address and a screenshot of the error, and they will check whether the Bot's computer can reach it.
There is one known bug in this area. A Bot may say "Local tools are turned off. The user has set local tool access to Never." even though Execution on this computer is set to Always allow or Ask every time. Cursor says the issue is on its side and your setting is correct, and restarting, reinstalling or changing the setting will not clear it. Waiting for the fix is the only move.
Where did my chats or Bots go?
They are usually not deleted. Chats are stored outside the computer, so a computer problem does not remove them, and the checks are quick.
- Fully quit Grok BotAn early AI teammate product from SpaceXAI and Cursor that works across apps on a persistent cloud computer and asks for approval on selected actions; launch materials describe it as beta, but Cursor says Beta Services terms do not apply. - Open the same account on another device.
- Open Hidden Bots on desktop, or Show Hidden Bots on the phone. Hide from sidebar removes a Bot from the list only.
- Confirm you are signed in to the same Cursor account, not a different login.
Do not use Recover or Reset to look for missing chats. If they are still missing on every device, contact support with your account email, the Bot name and a screenshot of the sidebar. A low-disk warning is a different thing too: the Bot names the biggest files on its cloud computer and offers to delete them, and nothing goes unless you say yes.
Why won't a connected app, a single sign-on app or the X plugin work?
App problems sort by what the screen says. Added means the app is installed, which is different from signed in, and most confusion starts there.

If none of that works, choose Remove, add the app again and sign in. Support wants the app name and your account email if re-authorizing completes and the app still shows disconnected.
Work apps behind Okta or other single sign-on fail for a less obvious reason. The Bot works on its own cloud computer, so Face ID, Windows Hello, fingerprint and passkeys saved on your laptop or phone do not work there. When the Bot reaches the sign-in page it shows a Computer card marked Action needed. Choose Take over, sign in with a method your company allows, such as a password with a code or a push approval, and choose I'm done. On Mac and Windows you can also turn on Use hardware security keys under Settings > General > Security Key. Every Bot on your account can then use that sign-in until it expires.

The plugin is only for private data like DMs, bookmarks and your home timeline, and it runs on your own X developer account, which needs X API credits. Frequently asked questions
Does reinstalling Grok Bot fix a sign-in loop?
Usually not. Update the app, sign out and back in, clear cookies for cursor.com and x.ai, and try a private window. If the phone loops, sign in on desktop first. If the error is new, wait 30 to 60 minutes before retrying.
Is Grok Bot down?
Check the Grok Bot row on status.cursor.com, since the app does not show service status. During an incident, wait and resend your message afterwards. Do not Reset the computer or reinstall the app, because neither fixes a service problem.
Why does Grok Bot say Update required?
Your version is older than Cursor supports, which the how-to help puts at more than 14 days old with a newer one available. Choose Update, then Restart to update. On Linux the screen may give you a command to run, and on the phone the button opens the App Store or Google Play.
My Bot says I hit my usage limit. Is it broken?
No. Your weekly usage is used up, and it resets each week. The ways to keep going before the reset depend on your plan.
How do I copy a request ID for support?
Right-click the message and choose Copy request ID, or hover the message, open More message actions and choose it there. If the option is missing, that message has no ID, so include the error text and a screenshot instead.
Can I delete Grok Bot without deleting my Cursor account?
No. Grok Bot signs in with your Cursor account, so deleting it means deleting that account. Signing out or uninstalling the app leaves the account in place.
